Letras 3D | 3D letters

Como já sabem, eu gosto de reutilizar materiais. E evitar comprar coisas que possa fazer em casa.

Ora tinha (e ainda tenho…) bastante cartão em casa de coisas que se compraram para o Afonso, como a cama de grades.

E andava a namorar aquelas letras 3D grandes que se vendem nas lojas de decoração.

Vai daí, decidi experimentar fazê-las eu.

As you know, I like to reuse materials. And avoid buying things I can make myself at home.

Now, I had (and still have ...) many cardboard boxes of things that were bought for Afonso, such as the crib.

And I had my eye on those big 3D letters that are sold in decoration stores.

Therefore, I decided to try making them myself.

Do you want to try?

Material:

- Cartão;

- Jornais;

- Rolos de papel higiénico;

- Régua;

- Lápis

- Cola líquida;

- Cola branca;

- Água;

- Pinceis;

- Tintas.

Material:

- Cardboard;

- Newspapers;

- Toilet paper rolls;

- Ruler;

- Pencil;

- Liquid glue;

- White glue;

- Water;

- Brush;

- Paint.

Instruções:

Instructions:

-Desenhar ou imprimir as letras desejadas no tamanho escolhido e cortá-las;

- Draw or print the letters you want in the chosen size and cut them out;

- Passar para o cartão e recortá-las;

- Trace them onto the cardboard and cut;

- Cortar argolas de papel higiénico (eu fiz com 2,5 cm, mas depende da grossura desejada);

- Cut toilet paper rings (I made them 2.5 cm, but it depends on the desired thickness);

- Colar as argolas numa face de cada letra e depois a segunda face por cima (assim uma espécie de sanduiche);

- Glue the rings on one side of each letter and then cover with the second side (as kind of sandwich);

- Cortar folhas de jornal em tirinhas;

- Cut sheets of newspaper into strips;

- Passar as tiras de jornal por cola branca diluída com um pouco de água. Escorrer com os dedos e ir forrando cada letra;

- Dip the paper strips in white glue diluted with a little water. Drain with your fingers and line each letter;

- Deixar secar;

- Let them dry;

- Pintar de branco;

- Paint white;

- Depois da tinta branca seca, pode-se pintar/decorar a gosto (eu optei por deixar só assim, porque as paredes do quarto do Afonso já têm muita cor).

- After the white paint dry, you can paint/decorate them to taste (I chose to leave them just like that, because the walls of Afonso bedroom already have a lot of color).

Já no quarto, colei-as com bostik e ficou assim.

In the bedroom, I hanged them with Bostik.

P.s. A ideia de usar os rolos de papel higiénico para fazer o volume não é minha. Já tinha visto há algum tempo pela internet e guardado na cabeça, mas agora não sei de onde a tirei…

Toalhitas reutilizáveis | Reusable baby wipes

Para além das fraldinhas, cá por casa também vamos usar toalhitas reutilizáveis.

Por várias razões:

- São obviamente mais ecológicas;

- São mais económicas;

- São práticas quer para limpar chichis e cocós, quer para limpar a carinha do bebé (o que não se deve fazer com as toalhitas descartáveis!);

- Não representam propriamente trabalho adicional (quem já vai lavar fraldas, lava também as toalhitas…);

- São adequadas à pele sensível do bebé (não têm nenhum produto químico, nem tão pouco álcool).

São vários os locais onde as podem adquirir e há de diversos materiais (microfibra, algodão, turco, bambu, flanela…).

In addition to the cloth diapers, here at home we’re also going to use reusable wipes.

For several reasons:

- They are obviously more ecological;

- They are more economic;

- They’re practical either to clean baby bums or to wipe his face (something you shouldn’t do with disposable wipes!);

- They don’t really represent additional work (if you’re already going to wash diapers, you’ll wash baby wipes...);

- They are suitable for the sensitive baby skin (they don’t have any chemicals, nor alcohol).

There are several places where they can get them and they come in different materials (microfiber, cotton, terrycloth, bamboo, flannel...).

Eu optei por fazer as minhas a partir de uns lençóis de flanela antigos, o que as torna ainda mais ecológicas e económicas.

Fiz dois tamanhos diferentes.

I chose to do mine from some old flannel sheets, making them even more ecological and economical.

I made two different sizes.

Umas de 14 cm de lado, que cabem à medida nesta caixa de plástico e portanto tornam-se práticas para transportar.

A 14 cm wide, which fit perfectly in this plastic box and thus become practical to transport.

E umas maiores, com 20 cm.

And a larger, 20 cm wide.

Optei por fazê-las com apenas uma camada, porque me parece suficiente. Para que não desfiassem, utilizei ponto ziguezague à volta.

Por enquanto, acho que fiz cerca de 50 toalhitas.

Quando as tiver em uso, darei feedback se serão necessárias mais e se fará sentido fazê-las com duas camadas ou não.

I chose to do them with only one layer, it seems to me enough. To avoid shredding, I zigzag it all around.

For now, I think I did about 50 wipes.

After using them for a while, I’ll give feedback regarding if there’s need for more wipes and if it makes sense to do them with two layers or not.

Utilizei ainda os mesmos lençóis para fazer dois conjuntos de lençóis mais pequenos, para o berço.

I also used the same sheets to make two sets of smaller sheets for the crib.

O quarto do Afonso está pronto! | Afonso’s bedroom is done!

Bem, mais ou menos… Ainda está muito vazio e a precisar de decoração, mas isso vai-se enchendo com o tempo!

O meu sogro fez um ótimo trabalho, não fez? Temos imensa sorte!

Eu vou tendo ideias e há sempre alguém para me ajudar! Não é para todos!

My father-in-law did a great job, didn’t he? We’re very lucky!

I have all this ideas and there is always someone to oblige me! It’s not for everyone!

Depois de muito pensar: riscas, murais, temas, sei lá mais o quê, optámos pelo mais simples. Paredes só com uma cor, decidindo que depois com a decoração faríamos o resto.

After much thought: stripes, murals, themes, I don’t even know what else!, we chose the simplest. Walls with only one color, and deciding that the decor would complement it.

Aproveitei restos de tinta da minha mãe e de uma amiga e acho que as cores ficaram muito bem juntas. Verde e azul para um quarto cheio de vida! Até calhou bem, que eram as cores que já tínhamos na colcha da cama de solteiro do homem.

We used leftover paint from my mother’s and a friend and I think the colors go really well together. Green and blue for a bright room! We even got lucky with the colors, because they’re the same we already had in the man's single bed quilt.

Como são cores algo fortes, pedi ao meu sogro para pintar de branco a moldura do estore. Ficou muito bem assim, mais leve.

The chosen colors are a bit strong, so I asked my father-in-law to paint the blind frame white. It looks much better now.

Pelo mesmo motivo, só fiquei com a mobília de faia, clarinha e a nova ou adaptada, preferi em branco.

Mantivemos a cama porque o quarto é bastante grande (é a maior divisão da casa) e dá sempre jeito ter mais uma cama em casa.

Também ficámos com a estante que pertencia à secretária do homem. Só comprámos uns cubos de arrumação no Leroy Merlin e ficou feito.

For the same reason, I only kept the beech furniture, very soft and for the new or upgraded furniture, I preferred white.

We kept the bed because the room is quite large (it is the largest room in the house) and it’s always convenient to have another bed at home.

Also we kept the bookcase that belonged to the man's desk. Just bought some storage cubes in Leroy Merlin and that was done.

Is a sight, is not it? All thanks to my father-in-law of course!

Para combinar com o trocador, escolhemos esta cama de grades do Ikea. Com três ondinhas, parece mesmo fazer par!

To match the changing table, we chose this Ikea crib. With three waves, it seems to be a real match to the changing table, doesn’t it?

E pronto, que tal? Agora só me falta o meu príncipe para lhe dar vida!

T-shirts Star Wars para o papá e para o bebé | DIY macthing StarWars t-shirts for daddy and baby

Tal como eu, o homem cá da casa também não liga muito ao seu aniversário. Mas isso não quer dizer que não goste de presentes! ;)

Assim teve direito a um pedido e quis um novo jogo de tabuleiro – 7 Wonders! Que é giríssimo e ele adorou, mas não deixa de ser uma prenda para os dois.

Por isso, teve também direito a uma prenda surpresa – T-shirts Star Wars. Uma para ele e outra para o Afonso! Vão ficar o máximo um ao lado do outro!

Utilizei t-shirts de manga comprida cinzentas simples, da Decathlon.

Like me, the man of the house doesn’t care much about his birthday. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like gifts! ;)

So he was entitled to a gift request and chose a new board game - 7 Wonders! It’s a great game and he loved it, but it's still a gift for both of us.

Therefore, the hubby was also was entitled to a surprise gift - Star Wars T-shirts! One for him and one for Afonso! They’ll be so cute next to each other!

I used long sleeve plain grey T-shirts, that I bought at Decathlon.

Escolhi o texto e copiei para freezer paper. Este papel é uma espécie de papel vegetal, com um lado brilhante, que é usado nos EUA para congelar alimentos, mas também para crafts. Eu tenho um rolo que a minha mãe me trouxe de lá, mas também já vi em algumas casas de material de costura e artesanato, onde creio que vendam ao metro.

I chose the text and copied to freezer paper. This paper is a kind of tracing paper with a glossy side, which is used in the US to freeze food, but also for crafts. I have a roll that my mother brought me there, but I've seen it in some sewing and crafts material stores here in Portugal, where they sell it by the meter.

Depois de copiadas as letras, cortei com x-ato.

After copying the letters, I cut them out with an x-act.

Seguidamente, apliquei nas t-shirts. Para isso, coloca-se a parte brilhante virada para baixo (por isso atenção ao lado em que desenham) e passa-se o ferro por cima. Fica assim um stencil colado ao tecido.

Then I applied the freezer paper onto the t-shirts. For this, put the bright side down (so attention where you draw) and iron on top. You get a stencil attached to the fabric.

Depois, foi só colocar uma folha dentro das t-shirts (para não manchar o outro lado) e pintar com a cor escolhida.

Afterwards, I just put a sheet inside the t-shirts (so not to stain the other side) and painted them with the chosen color.

Deixar secar e retirar o freezer paper (sai muito facilmente).

I allow them to dry and removed the freezer paper (it comes out very easily).

O homem adorou e eu adorei ver o sorriso dele! :D

Agora tenho que ver se faço uma para mim, para ficarmos os três a combinar!...

The hubby loved it and I loved watching his smile! :D

Now I should make one for myself, so the three of us can match!...

Parede de artesanato | Crafts Wall

Como já vos tinha falado, esta é a minha parte favorita do nosso quarto: a parede de crafts!

As I’ve said before, this is my favorite part of our bed room: the crafts’ wall!

It was simple and inexpensive, but I love to look at it!

Ficou simples e barata, mas eu adoro olhar para ela!

Desde que me lembro que tenho uma paixão por material escolar e de artesanato – É tão lindo! Às vezes até me dá pena utilizar…

Consumismo, eu sei, mas quando andava na escola, uma das minhas alturas favoritas do ano era o regresso às aulas. Não só porque eu realmente sempre adorei estudar, mas porque adorava (adoro) material novo! Pronto, é um guilty pleasure!

Portanto, chegando esta altura (melhor que o Natal!), lá arrastava eu a minha mana para a festa do regresso às aulas! Que embora com muito entusiasmo não era festa nenhuma… Era correr a Staples, Jumbo, papelarias e passear pelos corredores a ver, cheirar e escolher os novos materiais! Hmmm, que maravilha!

E depois, chegar a casa e espalhar tudo na cama, dividir as minhas coisas das da mana, etiquetar tudo, forrar os livros de uma e de outra (também tenho uma panca por forrar livros, o que é que se há de fazer…), decorar as divisórias dos dossiers…

Atenção, eu realmente gostava sempre de começar o ano com coisas novas, mas não desperdiçava as do ano letivo anterior. Enquanto as novas iam para a escola, as outras usava em casa! Vá, já não era tão mau!

Ai, tenho saudades da escola… Ganhando eu o euromilhões, e com o Afonso mais velhinho, ainda gostava de colecionar licenciaturas!

Continuando… O material de artesanato e costura exerce em mim o mesmo efeito. O que eu deliro com aquilo! Isso e ter as coisas organizadas, à mão e de preferência com etiquetas! Cada maluco com a sua mania, não julguem! :)

Portanto, não é de espantar, que esta parede me dê tanto prazer!

Since I can remember I have a passion for school supplies and crafts - It's so beautiful! Sometimes, I even feel sorry for using it…

Consumerism, I know, but when I was in school, one of my favorite times of the year was the beginning of the school year. Not only because I really always loved school, but because I loved (love) new school supplies! Okay, it's a guilty pleasure!

Therefore, when this time of the year arrived (better then Christmas!), I dragged my little sister for the back to school party! I must say, that although with much enthusiasm, it was not a party... It was a stroll through Staples, Jumbo, stationery stores, visiting every hall to see, smell and choose new supplies! Hmmm, how wonderful!

And then, getting home and spreading it on the bed, spliting my stuff from that of my sisters, labeling everything, lining the books of one and the other (I also have a thing by lining books, what can we do ...), decorating the fillers’ dividers...

Do keep in mind, I really liked to always to start the year with new things, but I didn’t waste the last school year supplies. While the new went to school, the other I used at home! There, it wasn’t so bad!

Oh, I miss school... If I ever win the lottery, and with Afonso a little older, I would also love to collect degrees!

Moving along... The craft and sewing supplies have the same effect on me. I’m crazy about them! That, and having things organized, handy and preferably with tags! Different strokes for different folks, do not judge! ;)

So it isn’t surprising that this wall gives me so much pleasure!

Costura: Pensos diários reutilizáveis – molde GRÁTIS! / Sewing: Cloth Panty liners – FREE pattern!

Nunca gostei de usar pensinhos diários. Iac! Simplesmente, não assentam bem! E colam-se à pele! Ah e tal, tu é que não sabes usar!, podem estar vocês a pensar… Mas caramba, aquilo não é engenharia espacial!

Eu acho que não são nada ergonómicos. Ou os coloco direitinhos nas cuecas e falham o alvo redondamente, ou os coloco mais acima e já não ficam com as formas ajustadas, pelo que acabam por se colar à roupa ou pior ainda, à pele. Ai, coisa mais desconfortável!

Para não falar do impacto ambiental que constituem!

Verdade seja dita, que não os usava diariamente, apenas nos últimos dias da menstruação (e como usei implante durante três anos, já lá ia o tempo…), mas mesmo assim fazia-me confusão…

O que é certo é que com a gravidez, a partir de certa altura, passei a precisar de os usar diariamente. Ainda comprei uma caixa, mas depois pensei…

Então, eu estou a fazer stock de fraldinhas reutilizáveis para o meu bebé, entre outras razões, para evitar contribuir para 500 anos de decomposição do plástico das fraldas, e depois em mim vou usar pensinhos destes!? Hell, no!

Ora lá vai a Pi para as internetes à procura de um molde para fazer pensinhos em tecido. É verdade, há muitos disponíveis. O problema é… Têm o mesmo formato que os de compra. Raça! Só me resolver metade do problema!

I never liked to wear panty liners. Iac! They just don’t fit well! And they stick to the skin! Oh please you big whiner, you just don’t know how to use them!, you may be thinking... But damn, that’s not space engineering!

I think they’re not ergonomic at all. Either you put them aligned with the underwear and they fail the target miserably, or you place them higher up and they no longer adapt to your panties, ending up sticking to clothing or even worse, to the skin. Alas, most uncomfortable thing!

Not to mention the environmental impact they make!

Truth be told, I use them seldom - only in the last days of menstruation (and since I had a contraceptive implant for three years, it has been some time ...), but still it annoyed me...

What is certain is that with the pregnancy, from one point, I began to need to use them daily. I even bought a box, but then I thought...

So I'm doing a stock of reusable diapers for my baby, among other reasons, to avoid contributing to 500 years of plastic decomposition, and then I'm going to use plastic panty liners myself!? Hell, no!

Well there went Pi for the internet looking for a pattern to make cloth panty liners. True, there are many available. The problem is... They have the same format as the disposable ones. Geez! I only solve half the problem!

Pronto, tenho que desenhar eu um mais ergonómico. E voilá!

Okay, I have to draw a more ergonomic one myself. And voila!

Para mim, este formato resulta muito bem, não sai do sítio, protege o que tem que proteger e é muito confortável!

Como material utilizei polar/fleece (manta do IKEA) e flanela (de uns lençóis velhos). Como foi a primeira vez que fiz, optei por ir experimentando várias formas de conjugar e coser os dois materiais.

For me, this format works very well, it doesn’t slide, protects what it has to protect and is very comfortable!

For materials, I used fleece (from an IKEA blanket) and flannel (from old sheets). As it was the first time I did them, I experiment with various ways to combine and sew the two materials.

Aqui fica o passo a passo em fotos e já vos digo a forma que gostei mais…

Todos funcionam bem, mas o meu preferido é sem dúvida com apenas uma camada de flanela e as abas em polar, embora resulte também muito bem com as abas em flanela, apenas ligeiramente menos estável.

Para a estabilidade do pensinho, contribui também a costura central. Experimentei das duas formas e é como resulta melhor.

They all work well, but my favorite is undoubtedly with only a layer of flannel and tabs on fleece, although results also very well with the tabs in flannel, only slightly less stable.

For the stability of the sanitary napkin also contribute central seam. I tried both ways and it is clearly better.

E pronto, já foram usados e lavados muitas vezes e continuam a fazer o serviço direitinho. :)

Os nossos gatos têm um pequeno ginásio que comprámos no Lidl por um bom preço. Eles adoram o seu ginásio, até porque está na marquise, o que lhes permite deitar-se a apanhar sol e também ter uma posição privilegiada para observar a rua.

Agora, o ginásio tem 6 arranhadores. Seis! Enquanto a Sygin até vai utilizando os seis, o Loki teima que só gosta de um! Resultado, esse arranhador ficou desfeito!

Mas nada que não se resolva. O homem da casa arrancou o que já não se aproveitava e reparou o arranhador com nova corda de sisal. Ficou ótimo! E o Loki aprovou!

                              

Our cats have a small gym we bought at Lidl for a good price. They love their gym, because it’s in the sunroom, which allows them to lie down sunbathing and also have a privileged position to observe the street.

Now the gym has 6 scratching areas. Six! While Sygin does ude the six of them, Loki insists that he only likes one! Resulting in a ruined scratcher!

Nothing that can’t be resolved, though. The man of the house took off what was no longer usable and repaired the scratching post with sisal rope. It’s great! And Loki approved!
