Algumas das roupas que herdei da minha avó Mila não são propriamente atuais ou sequer do meu tamanho, e é por isso que as aperto e altero. Esta saia tinha um tecido muito bom, bonito e quentinho. Tive mesmo que a aproveitar!

É uma transformação simples que não exige muitos conhecimentos de costura. Deixo-vos o passo a passo, para quem quiser experimentar.

Para simplificar, podem optar por tornar uma cintura subida em cintura descida, evitando mexer em pregas e apenas tendo que apertar a cintura ligeiramente.

It is a simple transformation that doesn’t require a lot of sewing knowledge. Here is the step by step tutorial for those who want to try it.

For uncomplicatedness, you may choose to turn a high waist in a low waist, and avoid messing with darts.

Cortar o comprimento desejado. É preciso ter em atenção que ainda se terá que fazer a bainha, por isso contem com isso para não acabar com uma saia curta de mais.

Cut the desired length. You need to be aware that you’ll have to do the hem, so count on it not to end up with a shorter skirt than you’ve expected.

 Depois de fazer as medições, marcar com giz de alfaiate (ou caneta/lápis para costura) o que é necessário apertar.

After taking measurements, mark with tailor's chalk (or sewing pen/pencil).

Coser à máquina por essa linha. Atenção na parte superior da saia, para não coserem o cós da saia (isso fica para depois).

Sew through that line. Attention not to sew the waistband of the skirt (that’s for later).

Cortar o tecido em excesso e depois usar o ponto em ziguezague da máquina na borda do tecido. Este passo é importante para que depois o tecido não comece a desfiar.

Cut the excess fabric and then zigzag it. This step is important so that the fabric doesn’t fray.

Abrir as costuras com o ferro de engomar as costuras ficarem lisas e o tecido cair bem.

Press seams open so that they’ll stay smooth professional looking.

Vamos então ao cós. A forma mais correta, seria mesmo descosê-lo todo e voltar a aplica-lo à medida. Eu faço batota. Corto o excesso e coso um lado.

Let's do the waistband now. The right way would be to unpick it all and re-apply it with the correct fit. I cheat. I just cut the excess and sew one side.

Depois, dobro o outro lado por cima e coso (à máquina, ou se o tecido for muito grosso, como foi o caso, à mão).

Then fold the other side over and sew (by machine, or if the fabric is too thick, by hand).

Por fim, coser a bainha com a medida desejada!

Finally, sew the hem with the desired length!

E pronto, está pronta a ser usada.

That's it, is ready for use.

Eu não ligo propriamente às tendências, mas a verdade é que esta é uma tendência que chegou para ficar! E com fundamento! Já há bastante tempo que gosto de conjugar peças de roupa ou acessórios dos meus avós e não só. A minha mãe foi adolescente nos anos 70… É uma forma não só de poupar dinheiro (alô, roupa grátis!), como de nos apresentarmos diferentes e elegantes. Além de poder por o nosso lado criativo a funcionar!

A minha querida avó Mila faleceu há dois anos. Foi muito duro para nós, mas principalmente para o meu avô, é claro. Durante algum tempo, o meu avô não quis mexer em nada da minha avó, continuando os armários e cómodas cheios das suas coisas. Com o passar do tempo decidiu que a melhor forma de preservar a sua memória era dar nova vida a algumas das suas coisas. Pediu-me ajuda e, juntos, fomos esvaziando gavetas, relembrando momentos, chorando um pouco, mas também sorrindo de memórias tão boas.

Fomos dando destino aos tesouros encontrados: algumas peças para guardar de recordação, outras para distribuir por os membros da família, eu incluída.

Sob insistência do meu avô, fui trazendo saias, camisolas, vestidos, camisas, casacos… A princípio, mais para não lhe fazer uma desfeita. Mas depois de experimentar algumas peças dei comigo a olhar para o espelho e a pensar para mim própria:

- “Própia, olha que isto fica-te bem!”

A minha avó era uma senhora estilosa, que vestia muito bem, diga-se de passagem.

Algumas peças servem-me tal como são, como as camisolas, mas a maioria, claro, não são à minha medida. Sem problemas, sou uma costureira muito aprendiz, embora com muito gosto, mas não tenho receio de meter mãos à obra! Há peças que basta apertar (já o fiz a algumas) e outras que apenas gostaria de aproveitar o tecido ou mudar um pouco o feitio das roupas.

Assim, nesta rubrica, mostrar-vos-ei alguns conjuntos que utilizo com roupa verdadeiramente vintage, e também alterações que vou fazendo a esta montanha de roupa que me calhou.

Para mim, usar estas roupas, faz-me recordar da minha avó constantemente, não com tristeza, mas com nostalgia e penso em momentos em que me pegou ao colo ou me abraçou usando aquela mesma camisola ou que passeámos de braço dado usando aquele vestido…

I don't really care for fashion trends, but the truth is that this is a trend that is here to stay! And with good reason! For quite some time now that I like to combine parts of clothes or accessories of my grandparents and other members of my family. My mother was in teenager in the seventies... It is a way not only to save money (hello, free clothes!), but to present ourselves in a different and elegant way. In addition, it’s a way to put our creative side to work!

My beloved grandmother Mila died two years ago. It was very hard for us, but especially for my grandfather, of course. For some time, my grandfather didn’t want to break apart with anything of my grandmother’s, keeping the wardrobes and chests full of her things. It was some time until he decided that the best way to preserve her memory was to give a new life to some of her things. He asked me for help, and together we were emptying drawers, recalling moments, crying a little, but also smiling over dear memories.

We have been giving destination to the treasures we found: some to keep in remembrance, others to give away to various members of the family, including me.

Upon insistence of my grandfather, I was bringing skirts, shirts, dresses, shirts, jackets... At first, just to please him, but after trying some parts I found myself looking in the mirror and thinking to my self:

"Self, that look suits you fine!"

My grandmother was a fancy lady, that clothed very well, I must say.

Some clothes serve me as they are, such as the jerseys, but the majority, of course, are not to my measure. No problem, I’m no seamstress, although I do love to sew, but I am not afraid to get down to work! There are some garments that only need to get fitted (I’ve already done some) and some that I would just like to use the fabric or slightly change the shape.

Thus, under this heading, I will show you some sets that I use with clothes truly vintage, and also amendments that I am making to this mountain of clothes.

For me, using these clothes, reminds me of my grandmother constantly, not with sadness, but with nostalgia and I think about the times that she embraced using that same shirt or that we walked arm in arm with her using that dress...

Hoje deixo-vos uma combinação: leggins pretas, camisola que já foi da minha avó Mila e boina preta que foi da minha mãe em nova;)

Today I leave you a combination: black leggins, a woolen sweater that was my grandmother’s and a black beret that was my mother’s back in the day.
