Fraldas reutilizáveis, três meses depois! | Reusable diapers, three months later!

E já vamos em três meses de fraldas reutilizáveis! E continuamos satisfeitos! :)

Entretanto, já deixámos algumas de parte.

As de recém-nascido da B’bies foram as primeiras a deixar de servir. Ainda pareciam ajustar bem, mas davam logo fuga…

And we’ve been through three months of reusable diapers! And still happy with them! :)

Some no longer fit, though.

The newborn's B'bies were the first to be put away. They still seemed to fit well, but always leaked.

Seguiram-se as pré-dobradas de recém-nascido e pequenas. Quer dizer, ainda as usamos, mas como absorventes extra ou dentro da capa da MITA.

They we’re followed by the newborn and small pre-folded. I mean, we still use them, but as an extra insert or inside the MITA’s cover.

Mas umas vão e outras vêm. Já cabe nas fraldas de bolso de tamanho único! Mas não em todas as marcas. Nas Alva e B’bies ainda não conseguimos um bom ajuste e temos muitas fugas.

Mas as TU da Little Lamb já servem bem e ficam mimosas. Os absorventes de bambu são muito absorventes e pouco volumosos. Cada fraldoca traz dois.

But the ones form Little Lamb fits well and are very cute. The bamboo inserts aren’t bulky, but very absorbent. Each diaper comes with two.

As duas que comprámos na Ecological Kids, uma totbots tudo em um (AIO) e uma blueberry de bolso, também funcionam muito bem.

Introduzimos as fraldas de cânhamo da Mamidea. Eu uso com um absorvente de cânhamo extra e gosto da absorção conseguida. Parecem-me muito confortáveis, mas acho que o serão ainda mais quando servirem sem as ter que dobrar. Na minha opinião, resultam melhor com uma capa de lã do que com uma de PUL, porque não ficam com dobras.

The two nappies we bought at Ecological Kids, a totbots all in one (AIO) and a pocket blueberry, also work very well.

We introduced the hemp diapers from Mamidea. I use an extra hemp insert and like the accomplished absorption. They seem to me very comfortable, but I think it will be even more so when they’ll fit without having to fold them. In my opinion, they work best with a wool cover than a PUL one, because they don’t get so many folds.

Nas pré-dobradas, passámos para o tamanho médio, com um absorvente de cânhamo.

Regarding pre-folded, we moved on to the average size, with a hemp insert.

Continuamos satisfeitos com as Luas da MITA, mas o tamanho 1 já está mesmo a deixar de servir e já temos usado também o tamanho 2. Tenho pena que pensava que ainda esticava a utilização do tamanho 1 mais um bocadinho… (ele está com 5,7 kg).

Adoro as LL ajustadas para a noite. O Afonso dorme 8/9 horas na maioria das noites e nunca tenho uma fuga! Tenho alguma pena de não ter comprado mais algumas no tamanho 2.

We remain pleased with MITA, but the size 1 is now failing to fit and we have also used size 2. I thought they would fit for a little longer... (he's 5, 7 kg).

I love the LL fitted for the night. Afonso sleeps 8/9 hours most nights and I never had a leak! I regret not buying some more in size 2.

Algumas considerações:

- Definitivamente, prefiro o aperto por velcro. É muito mais rápido e ajustamos mesmo de acordo com o corpinho do filhote.

- Já tenho que fazer mais máquinas de roupa. Agora faço dia sim, dia não ou de dois em dois dias. Isto porque estas fraldas ocupam mais espaço, mas também porque o Afonso espera pelas fraldas lavadas para fazer cocó! (alguém lhe deve ter dito que era a junção do chichi com o cocó que assava e ele não quer arriscar!).

- Se não tivesse comprado tantas TU de bolso, apostava em mais ajustadas. Até agora é o sistema que mais gosto e que melhor resulta.

Some considerations:

- Definitely, I prefer the diapers with velcro. It is much faster and easy to fit to the baby’s small body.

- I have to do more laundry machines. Now, I do one day in, day out or every two days. This is because these diapers take up more space, but also because the Afonso always waits for a clean diaper to poop! (Someone must have told him it was the junction of pee and poop that makes rashes and he just doesn’t 

want to risk it!).

- If I had not bought so many pocket TU, I would buy more fitted diapers. So far it’s the system that I like the most and that gives better results.

Fraldas reutilizáveis, um mês depois | Reusable diapers, a month later

Ora bem, pouco mais de um mês depois de começarmos a utilizar as fraldas reutilizáveis, cá venho dar o meu testemunho. Espero que possa ajudar quem está agora a começar a aventura neste mundo! ;)

Até agora, tenho feito uma máquina de fraldas e roupa do Afonso com intervalos de 4/5 dias. É claro que é um gasto extra, mas convenhamos, passámos a ser uma família de três, tinha que aumentar o gasto aí e parece-me que este é um bom intervalo, para além do que lavo logo a roupa dele também e toalhas, mantinhas, etc., tudo o que lhe pertence.

Se se estão a questionar se fraldas sujas acumuladas durante 4/5 dias não cheiram mal… Garanto-vos que não! Eu ponho as fraldas neste balde do IKEA, com um saco grande de PUL da Alva e deixo a tampa fechada (há quem prefira deixar aberta). Junto um paninho com umas gotas de óleo essencial de árvore de chá, que é desinfetante e antibacteriano (além de que dá um bom cheirinho!). Cheira muito pior quando usamos uma descartável e pomos no lixo.

It’s been just over a month since we started using reusable diapers, so here I am to give my testimony. I hope it can help those who are just beginning this adventure! ;)

So far, I’ve done a diaper and Afonso’s clothes machine with intervals of 4-5 days. Of course it's an extra expense, but face it, we have become a family of three, I had to increase spending there and it seems to me that this is a good interval, and I also wash his clothes as well as his towels, blankets, etc., all that belongs to him.

If you are questioning if dirty diapers accumulated over 4/5 days stink ... I assure you they do not! I put the diapers in this bucket of IKEA, with a big PUL bag from Alva and leave the lid closed (some people prefer to leave it open). I add a cloth with a few drops of essential oil of tea tree, which is disinfectant and antibacterial (in addition smelling good!). It smells much worse when we use a disposable diaper and put it in the trash can.

Como ainda é cocó de leite materno, assim muito líquido e amarelo (quem não gosta de ler sobre cocó? ;)), espalha-se bastante e nem sempre os liners chegam para proteger as fraldas. Nesses casos, esfrego as nodoas com sabão clarim ou sabão de coco antes de por a lavar na máquina. Se mesmo assim não sai, vão para o estendal, apanhar sol.

Até agora tenho tido poucas fugas, sendo que as fugas de chichi são bastante raras. A maioria das fugas acontecem quando o Afonso está a mamar, deitado de lado e me brinda com uma cagada explosiva! Ele acaba por sujar mais a roupa de chichi com os repuxos quando o dispo. Ainda não tenho sido suficientemente rápida a cobrir-lhe a piloca…

As Afonso is still pooping breast milk, very liquid and yellow (who doesn’t like to read about poop;)), it spreads a lot and the liners are not always enough to protect the diapers. In such cases, I rub the stains with soap before putting them in the machine wash. If it still doesn’t come out, I put them on the hanger, sunbathing.

So far I have had few leaks, and the pee leaks are quite rare. Most leaks occur when Afonso is breastfeeding lying down and gives me an explosive poop! He ends up soiling his clothes with pee more often when changing.. I still have not been fast enough to cover the danger zone...

Agora, a minha opinião sobre cada tipo e marca de fralda. É apenas a minha opinião da utilização que tenho feito ao longo destas semanas. Outras mamãs outra opinão terão…

Now, my opinion about every type and brand of diaper I’ve been using. It's just my opinion from the use that I have done over these weeks. Other moms opinions may differ…

Ajustadas Little Lamb – São muito absorventes e ajustam-se bem nas pernocas magrinhas. O contra é que são mesmo muito volumosas! Eu tenho de bamboo e de algodão, sendo que as de bamboo são ligeiramente menos volumosas. Para além disso, as de bamboo são também mais fofinhas e é mais fácil tirar as nódoas. Por outro lado, as de algodão secam bastante mais depressa. Como são tão volumosas, utilizo-as mais à noite, com babygrows maiores.

Adjusted Little Lamb - They are very absorbent and adjust well to skinny legs. The counter is that they are really bulky! I have some made from bamboo and others from cotton, and the bamboo are slightly less bulky. Furthermore, the bamboo ones are also more fluffy and is easier to remove the poop stains. Moreover, the cotton dries very quickly. As they are so bulky, I use them more at night, with bigger rompers.

Ajustadas Mita – São também bastante absorventes, embora me pareçam um pouco menos que as LL. No entanto, são muito menos volumosas e mais bonitas. Ficam mesmo fofas vestidas! Acho-as também muito práticas e são fáceis de explicar como colocar a quem não conhece fraldas reutilizáveis.

Adjusted Mita – They’re also very absorbent, although they seem to me a little less than the LL. However, they are much less bulky and prettier. They look so cute! I find them also very practical and easy to explain how to put to those unfamiliar with reusable diapers.

Tudo em Um B’bies recém-nascido – Muito, muito práticas. É só apertar as molas e pronto! Lavam-se também muito bem e até agora nunca ficaram com uma nódoa. O único senão é que não vão servir durante muito mais tempo e depois não têm outra utilização. Atualmente, o ajuste também já não está tão fácil, porque nas molas mais apertadas, já não serve e nas mais largas temos fugas. Tenho que apertar mais de um lado e menos do outro.

All in One B'bies newborn - Very, very practical. Just press the springs and that’s it! They also wash well and so far never stained. The only drawback is that they’ll not suit much longer and then have no other use. Currently, the fit is also not so easy because the tighter springs, no longer serves and the wider allow leaks. I have to tighten more on one side and less on the other.

Pré-dobradas – São muito maneirinhas e dão para ajustar perfeitamente ao bebé! Depois de se perceber o esquema, são fáceis de colocar, mas são aquelas com que nunca peço ajuda para trocar uma fralda, porque já sei que vão fazer confusão. Por vezes ponho um absorvente de cânhamo ou bamboo para aumentar absorção. Secam razoavelmente depressa. Têm também a vantagem de que quando deixarem de servir, passam a ser absorventes.

Pre-folded – They’re very light and allows us to adjust perfectly to the baby! After realizing the scheme, they are easy to use, but they’re those that I never ask for anyone to change, because I know that will make confusion. Sometimes I put a hemp or bamboo insert to increase absorption. They dry fairly quickly. They also have the advantage that when they cease to fit, I can use them as inserts.

Capas – As capas da Little Lamb funcionam mesmo melhor é com as ajustadas da mesma marca porque são muito altas (mas também as uso com as outras fraldas, quando já não tenho limpas das outras. Gosto bastante do ajuste nas pernas.

Adoro a da Mita. É linda, e permite ajustar o tamanho.

As capas polares que fiz funcionaram muito bem, mas agora o Afonso já não cabe nas de recém-nascido e as S ainda são grandes.

Covers - The Little Lamb covers work better with the same brand diapers because they are very high (but I also use them with other diapers, when I the others are dirty). I really like the fit in the legs…

I love the Mita one. It's beautiful, and lets you adjust the size.

The fleece covers I made worked very well, but now Afonso no longer fits in the newborn and the S are still too big.

Relativamente ao fecho por molas ou velcro… O velcro é mais rápido e permite um melhor ajuste, mas as molas parecem mais resistentes. As LL e as Mita têm o velcro em lados opostos, o que às vezes estraga o piloto automático.

  

Regarding fastening by clips or velcro... Velcro is faster and provides a better fit, but appear to be less resistant than springs. LL and Mita have velcro on opposite sides, which sometimes spoils the autopilot.
