O nosso quarto está pronto! / Our bedroom is done!

Well, it’s been done for a while, but only now am I writing about it. ;)

Our room is not very big and is dimly lighted, so we always established it for our bedroom for us (the house has two), because so far we only use it to sleep. Why more space... This way, we use to have the big and lighted bedroom to house our desk and computer and all our toys and such, already thinking that it would be the bedroom of our future child. And it will! :)

Of course, our bedroom now has to have another function, in addition to sleep – we also need to have a working space. As well as having to increase the storage space. After all, we had much of our clothing in Afonso’s bedroom closet!

I felt a bit that we were trying to put too much on our plate... But it worked!

I love our bedroom and I can guarantee that we’ve never spent so much time there before!

We gave it some colour (with the precious help of my father-in-law!), what immediately transformed the bedroom. The cover was a gift from my in-laws, purchased this year in the FIA (artisans fair).

To organize our clothes, the solution was IKEA, more specifically, the ALGOT system. It was a bit difficult choosing the right parts (my brain is a little bit slower nowadays...) but in the end, I think we chose the best option. In a small space, we have a lot of stuff, and the curtains keep it out of sight and protected from dust.

This room had a small storage area, accessible by a small door. Ahem, one can even call it a closet ;). But to take advantage of all the space, I had to get the Algot system until the end of the wall and to the door! The solution was to have drawers with wheels, so you can divert them to enter the cabinet. I personally don’t have to do it, since I can still squeeze through that little space, even with the belly.

Now my favourite part is the workspace! :) :) I love, love, love it! My father-in-law is really skilful and combining IKEA furniture with MDF boards, we managed to create this functional space with lots of storage!

E organizado e bonito! Ahh, que maravilha!

I finally have all the sewing, crafts and drawing/painting supplies by hand! And organized and beautiful! Ahh, how wonderful!

I could live without the electronic things, but no matter how much the hubby also likes to paint and make me happy :P, is entitled to have a space to work!
In other posts, I will explain how I organized this little corner.

That's it, I hope you like my new little bedroom! The key words were: storage space, convenience and low cost.

Receita: couscous / Recipe: couscous

          1)      Colocar a quantidade desejada de couscous numa taça de vidro (cerca de 50/60 g por pessoa);
          2)      Cobrir com a mesma quantidade de água a ferver (com um pouco de sal e uma colher de azeite);
          3)      Tapar e deixar repousar durante alguns minutos, mexendo com um garfo de vez em quando.
          4)      Quando a água for absorvida, está pronto!

Juntar ervas frescas (hortelã ou salsa ligam especialmente bem), especiarias (pimentão-doce, pimenta, cominhos…), malaguetas picadas, legumes e leguminosas (tomates, ervilhas, azeitonas, milho…). As possibilidades são infinitas!

Então vá, vamos lá a experimentar!

There are those who turn up the nose to the famous couscous because they say they have no flavour! Big mistake! With so many ways to seasoned them, how can it be flavourless?

When I make couscous to add to a salad where they are just a complement (as in tabule), I don’t seasoned them much, that’s a fact, since the salad will have its own season. And there’s no need to be afraid to cook couscous, it’s the simplest thing ever!

1) Place the desired amount of couscous in a glass bowl (about 50/60 g per person);
2) Cover with the same amount of boiling water (with a little salt and a spoonful of olive oil);
3) Cover and let stand for a few minutes, stirring with a fork occasionally.
4) When the water is absorbed, it’s ready!

Now, for use as a main dish or accompaniment by itself, there is much that can be done to make it really delicious! Add fresh herbs (mint or parsley bind particularly well), spices (paprika, pepper, cumin ...), chopped chilli, vegetables and legumes (tomatoes, peas, olives, corn...). The possibilities are endless!

So go on, go try it!

The hubby and I love board games and slowly (taking advantage of many promotions, hehe!) we’re build our collection. Of course there comes a time that we get somewhat limited space in the closets for storing all the games...

The solution were shelves in the living room wall. It may not be a decoration to appear in a magazine, but we love it! In my opinion, home decor should reflect the tastes and personality of who lives there, and above all, make us happy! And, boy, do we love to contemplate our board games wall!

It is also very practical, either when both of us are in the room and feel like playing a game, like when we have guests, so they can more easily see the games we have and choose between them.

Coisas da gravidez: Pele fantástica! Pregnancy things: Fantastic skin!

Tirando a melhor coisa do mundo – a futura chegada do meu príncipe Afonso!

Oh yiiisss!

Apart the best thing in the world - the future arrival of my prince Afonso! – this pregnancy has not been very nice to me!

But one thing I have to thank it: I never had a skin like this! My skin has always been very dry, peeling and all!

And now... Hell yeah! I have baby skin! Way to go, hormones!

By the way, hormones, I also take this moment to thank you for my hair! For months, I haven’t need to use hair conditioner! Oh yiiisss!

Receita: Doce de pêssego e laranja / Recipe: Peach and Orange jam

Ingredientes:
- 1,2 kg de pêssegos descascados e sem caroços;
- Sumo e raspa de uma laranja (também fica bom com limão);
- 400 g de açúcar amarelo;

         1)      Ao pêssego descascado e cortado em pedaços, adicionar a raspa e o sumo da laranja, o açúcar e os paus de canela;
         2)      Envolver e levar a lume brando, até o pêssego se começar a desfazer;
         3)      Tirar os paus de canela e triturar com a varinha mágica ou num processador;
         4)      Levar novamente a lume brando, para engrossar;
         5)      Está pronto quando obtiverem o ponto de estrada (põe-se uma porção num prato e passa-se com a colher de pau pelo meio do doce, se ficar uma “estrada”, a ver-se o fundo, está pronto!)
         6)      Colocar ainda quente em frascos esterilizados, fechar muito bem e virá-los ao contrário até arrefecer.

Here’s the recipe that I used to prepare my peach jam (with the peaches I brought from the vegetable garden :) ). I gave it only a tiny lick, but I can guarantee it was very good!

Ingredients:
- 1.2 kg of peeled and pitted peaches;
- Juice and zest of an orange (it’s also good with lemon);
- 400 g of brown sugar;
- 2 cinnamon sticks.

You can use the amount of peach you want, but the sugar should be one third of the weight of peaches.

Preparation:
1) Peel and and cut the peaches into pieces, add the zest and juice of orange, the sugar and the cinnamon sticks;
2) Mix and bring to low heat until the peach is starting to ravel;
3) Remove the cinnamon sticks and grind with a hand blender or in a food processor;
4) Bring back to simmer to thicken;
5) The jam is ready when you can put up a portion on a plate and pass through with a wooden spoon making a “road”);

6) Place in sterilized jars while it’s still hot, close well and turn them upside down to cool.

Ingredientes:
- Tomates;
- Cebola;
- Sal;
- Louro;
- Manjericão;

Preparação:
           1)      Descascar e cortar os tomates e cebolas em pedaços;
           2)      Levar a lume brando. Os tomates e as cebolas vão largar água, por isso não é necessário acrescentar mais;
           3)      Quando já estiver tudo bem cozido, retirar o louro e triturar com a varinha mágica ou num processador;
           4)      Temperar com sal e levar novamente a lume brando para engrossar;
           5)      No final, juntar as folhas de manjericão, picadinhas, e envolver tudo.
           6)      Guardar em frascos esterilizados, que devem ser tapados e virados de cabeça para baixo para evitar a contaminação bacteriológica.

Bom apetite!

And here is the recipe for the tomato sauce that I made with the tomatoes and onion we got from the uncle’s garden. The husband loves it! I won’t give you precise quantities, because it depends on how much you want to make, however, the proportion of tomato/onion is about one onion for every four tomatoes.

Ingredients:
- Tomatoes;
- Onion;
- Salt;
- Bay;
- Basil;

Preparation:
    1) Peel and cut the tomatoes and onions into pieces;
    2) Bring to a gentle simmer. The tomatoes and onions will release water, so it’s not necessary to add more;
   3) When all is cooked, remove the bay leaf and mash with a hand blender or food processor;
   4) Season with salt and bring to simmer to thicken again;
   5) At the end, add the basil leaves, finely chopped, and mix it all.
   6) Keep in sterilized jars, which should be capped and turned upside down to prevent bacterial contamination.

Enjoy!

Coisas boas da horta! / Good things from the garden!

In times of abundance, many good things found their way into our home, straight from my huuby’s uncles garden. Yum, yum, how wonderful! Oh, how I want a garden to call my own! I would love to have one! And one day I will! It’s a dream I have, to live in the countryside and have a vegetable garden... Even if don’t have much knowledge about gardening (for now...) and the countryside gives me allergies! ;P

But anyway, we received many tasty products. Some things, like courgettes and chayotes, I froze some of it, all chopped, ready to be added in soups.

Other things that have come in large numbers, such as tomatoes and peaches, we’ve been eaten a few as they are, but I also took the opportunity to make peach jam (unfortunately now only for the hubby to add to his yoghurt and to give away, but in November I’ll also taste it!) and tomato paste with onion.

I love doing this kind of stuff at home. I know exactly what’s in them (and where the raw material come from), I control the seasoning, avoid wastage of new packaging and of course I save money!

How about you, how do you take advantage of the surplus vegetables?

Dia de passeata / Sightseeing day

Primeiro, ver as vistas à Arrábida…

We went sightseeing with my in-laws and family to Setúbal and it felt so good! I was getting nuts passing so much time at home!
It is true that I can’t walk as much as before and that I walk rather slowly and have to make many stops... But I did it!
First, see the sights in Arrábida...

Then a tasty lunch. I delighted myself with fried cuttlefish, after all, sometimes you just have to indulge! :) Even Afonso was pleased!

And finally, a stroll through downtown Setúbal. I studied two years in Setúbal, but the truth is I didn’t know the center. I just went to college everyday and that was it. I even had the idea that Setúbal had nothing to see, but at least that area is quite beautiful!

ps I have  few pictures, since I didn't take my camera and the man is hard to convince to take pictures! :P

Receita: Hummus / Recipe: Hummus

E por fim, o último componente do almoço árabe: Hummus.
Eu adoro hummus!

Bom apetite!

Finally, the last component of the middle eastern lunch: Hummus.
I love hummus! The first time I taste it was about 10 years ago in an Israeli restaurant in New York and I was rendered. But let me tell you, it seems to me that the one I make at is even better! I like to eat accompanying meat dishes, or even just as a snack, barred in bread or toast.

Ingredients:
- 400 g of cooked chickpeas
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 4 tablespoons of tahini
- Juice of half a lemon
- Parsley (or cilantro)
- 4 tablespoons of olive oil
- Salt and pepper
- Ground cumin
- Red chili (optional)

Preparation:
Again, very easy! Just grind all ingredients in the food processor. The amount of spices can be adapted to taste. I don’t really like spicy food (and now pregnant even less!), so the man of the house just adds it during the meal.

Enjoy your meal!

Receita: Kaftas / Recipe: Kaftas

Fica delicioso! :=

Now here is another recipe from the Middle East, which was part of my middle eastern lunch: Kaftas!

Ingredients:
- 500 g of minced beef (or lamb)
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- Salt and pepper
- Coriander (or parsley or mint)
- Ground cumin
- Olive oil

Preparation:
It’s as simple as can be - just mash it all together! You can add oil or flour, to acquire the right consistency. After you create a mixture (which shouldn’t be too sticky), make enlogated balls and pierce kebab sticks, then grill, or put in the oven (I make them in the AirFryer).

It’s delicious! :)

Receita: Tabule / Recipe: Tabule

Ingredientes:
- Pepino
- Tomate
- Cebola
- Couscous
- Salsa
- Hortelã
- Limão
- Azeite
- Sal e pimenta q.b.

Preparação:
1) Preparar os couscous e deixar a arrefecer;
2) Cortar o tomate, a cebola e os pepinos aos cubos e misturar;
3) Adicionar os couscous, a salsa e/ou hortelã picada;
4) Colocar no frigorífico até à refeição (é ainda melhor bem fresquinho!);
5) Temperar a gosto com o limão, azeite, sal e pimenta;

Today I leave you the tabbouleh recipe (that I used in my middle eastern lunch), which is nothing more than an Arab salad, very fresh and suitable for summer days. This is my preference, but there are many possibilities!

Ingredients:
- Cucumber
- Tomato
- Onion
- Couscous
- Parsley
- Mint
- Lemon
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper

Preparation:
1) Prepare the couscous and let them cool;
2) Cut the tomato, onion and cucumbers into cubes and mix;
3) Add the couscous, chopped parsley and/or mint;
4) Place in the refrigerator until the meal (it’s even better cool!);
5) Season to your taste with lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper;
6) Mix everything and that’s it!

It’s very good just like that, to accompany meat dishes, for example, but is also great for stuffing flat bread!

What I’m going to miss the most about this pregnancy is to feel my Afonso moving! Sometimes I even get nostalgic thinking how I’m going to miss what I still have... Silly, right?

Even when I feel more discouraged because I can’t travel or hike, because my diabetes isn’t controlled, because this or that... There comes a kick that tells me: "I'm here, Mommy! It’s for me that you do it!"

It is a call to reality! Yeah, it's for you, my Afonso, my baby! And for you, I’ll do anything!

And here I am, silly grin on my face and a heart full of love...

Bem bom!

Vou tentar postar as receitas brevemente.

One of these days, I woke craving midleeastern food! Yam, yam!

That day, I made hummustabbouleh and beef kaftas! So good!

I will try to post the recipes briefly.
