Saí com o Afonso! | First outing with Afonso!

Sozinha!

Alone! Or rather, just the two of us! And let me tell you, it was an adventure!
I was going to meet my sister. We were supposed to go to a Christmas book fair and get lunch together.

Right…

I start by saying that morning was being rather loud here at home! Having planned to meet my sister at 1 pm, I was already running late when she calls me before 12:30 saying that she’s already there! Jeez, the more anxious I get!
And Afonso kept singing a beautiful aria (if it's there understatement, this is it!).

So there I was, on the one hand thinking, "Better call to cancel and just stay at home ..." and on the other, "No, no, you have to go out! Alfonso will enjoy riding in the stroller!"

Fortunately, I was right, and as soon as the stroller began to tremble like a jackhammer, the boy fell asleep. Instantly. I won’t even take the carrycot out of the stroller, because the next time he’s colicky, I’ll go walk around the building. Again and again.

I had decided to go alone with Afonso and even with carpooling offers, I remained firm and went with it.

A word of advice if you’ve never pushed a stroller, especially if the walk involve stairs: wait for an outing with dad!! He was missed!

On the other hand, I managed to overcome all the physical obstacles, so now I’m ready for anything. And less flaccid, I want to believe.

Well, I eventually reached the metro station, but of course, the ticket machine had to be on the other side! And with a stroller, you can’t cross the line of the metro (surface metro), you have to go all around, through the ramps, with the train almost upon us. But I did it! (With a little jogging!).

This is when I realize that I have no phone. Oh great! First outing with Afonso and I won’t have any photos!

That, and I still had to find my sister. It's okay, I thought, she was almost out of battery, so we agreed to meet on the square. I’ll see her.

Exactly! We arrived and didn’t see her. Luckily, Afonso was sound asleep. I walked everywhere from edge to edge several times and nothing. And no way to contact her...

But wait, the place is full of kids, just ask one to let me make a call!

Great idea, yes, but I had to know by heart the number and I only know the first and last two numbers.

I figured my sister had gone home... The book fair was closed for lunch, but I thought it wouldn’t take much time to open, and so, since I was already there...

I still gave another round to the plaza looking for her, but ended up going to the grocery store. Hunger was already very present and I didn’t want to eat in a restaurant all by myself, that's no fun. I made some grocery shoping and ate something there.

The fair had opened! Yeah! But I was disappointed. I usually find great bargains, but this time, I just bought a little book, but none of the gifts I need!

It was worth it, though. Even if things have gone a bit backwards! After all, I just wanted a bit of independence, after so many months feeling like I was 12 years old, in need of help for everything!

As for Afonso, I would say he liked the ride. He slept through it all.

Há um mês que somos três | We’ve been three for a month

A mim não me faz espécie incluir o homem neste verbo.

A empatia do pai?

It doesn’t seem quite real yet. After all this time that we were two, now we are three. And it has been a whole month!

We decided to have a baby late last year. There is never a perfect time to make this decision. It was something that we always talked about and we had for granted, but without defining a time...

But with the deadline of my birth control implant approaching, we felt it was time.

We didn’t have (nor do we have it now) the best financial situation, but we have enough and foremost, we have the emotional conditions!

It was pim pam pum! I took the implant out in January and we got pregnant in February. Yes, WE got pregnant! I really don’t mind to include the man in this verb. It was a joint decision and was done and lived together, so I say WE!

Time really is relative... Not long ago I was complaining that I wanted Afonso in my arms... Now it seems that the pregnancy went by super fast! It seems that only yesterday we found out I was pregnant, we did the first ultrasound, we heard the little heart of our Prince for the first time, we found out he was a boy...

And suddenly, here he is!

Part of us.

So beautiful and perfect.

And already one month old!

So often did we imagined how our son would be. My nose or yours? Will he be blond like you or bald like me? Will he have his mother's clumsiness? His father’s empathy?

Now that he’s here, there is no comparison with the imagined baby. He is what he would always be. He could not be otherwise. I feel as if I had always known him and now I’m just remembering. Bizarre, right?

And we are no longer two, we are three! And it seems that we have always been...

Obrigada! :)

Obrigada, Moniquinha! :)

Receita: Muesli cru | Recipe: Raw muesli

Since I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I stopped eating the homemade cereals bars due to the honey.

So I turned to the muesli, but without adding honey, of course, making raw muesli.

It’s the simplest thing there is and I love to eat with yogurt in the morning.

The best thing is that it doesn’t raise my blood sugar, so I can eat it with joy and unconcerned.

Now, the ingredients and proportions depends on the taste and health limitations. I, for one, cannot add raisins or dates, due to the diabetes, so I use cranberries, which in addition to being sweet and tasty, are diabetes friendly.

Muesli can have:

- Nuts: hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds... Anything, just choose and mix ;P
- Oats
- Dried fruits: dates, cranberries, raisins...
- Dehydrated fruits: apples, bananas, strawberries...
- Seeds: sesame, linseed, sunflower, chia...

Just use your imagination!

I grind the nuts slightly, and then just mix the other ingredients. I don’t give you any measurements because it will depend on your taste and I just wing it.

After mixing, you just store it in a plastic or glass container and enjoy it.

It tastes great with yogurt and you can also join fresh fruit and honey for a special touch!

Letras 3D | 3D letters

As you know, I like to reuse materials. And avoid buying things I can make myself at home.

Now, I had (and still have ...) many cardboard boxes of things that were bought for Afonso, such as the crib.

And I had my eye on those big 3D letters that are sold in decoration stores.

Therefore, I decided to try making them myself.

Do you want to try?

Material:
- Cartão;
- Jornais;
- Rolos de papel higiénico;
- Régua;
- Lápis
- Cola líquida;
- Cola branca;
- Água;
- Pinceis;
- Tintas.

Material:
- Cardboard;
- Newspapers;
- Toilet paper rolls;
- Ruler;
- Pencil;
- Liquid glue;
- White glue;
- Water;
- Brush;
- Paint.

Instruções:
Instructions:
-Desenhar ou imprimir as letras desejadas no tamanho escolhido e cortá-las;
- Draw or print the letters you want in the chosen size and cut them out;

- Passar para o cartão e recortá-las;
- Trace them onto the cardboard and cut;

- Cortar argolas de papel higiénico (eu fiz com 2,5 cm, mas depende da grossura desejada);
- Cut toilet paper rings (I made them 2.5 cm, but it depends on the desired thickness);

- Colar as argolas numa face de cada letra e depois a segunda face por cima (assim uma espécie de sanduiche);
- Glue the rings on one side of each letter and then cover with the second side (as kind of sandwich);

- Cortar folhas de jornal em tirinhas;
- Cut sheets of newspaper into strips;

- Passar as tiras de jornal por cola branca diluída com um pouco de água. Escorrer com os dedos e ir forrando cada letra;
- Dip the paper strips in white glue diluted with a little water. Drain with your fingers and line each letter;

- Deixar secar;
- Let them dry;

- Pintar de branco;
- Paint white;

- After the white paint dry, you can paint/decorate them to taste (I chose to leave them just like that, because the walls of Afonso bedroom already have a lot of color).

In the bedroom, I hanged them with Bostik.

Eu gosto, e vocês?
I like it, how about you?

P.s. The idea of using the toilet rolls to make the volume is not mine. I had seen it some time ago over the Internet and memorized it, but now don’t know where I took the idea from...

Vídeos sensoriais para recém-nascidos | Sensory videos for babies

(exato, exato!) – leia-se, DORMIR!

Today I have a top tip! Believe me, moms of little babies, is a lifeline for our sanity when it seems that the baby won’t stop crying for hours (even if it has begun 10 minutes ago!), when you’ve changed his diaper, and fed him and put him to burp and did everything you could think of...

Sensory videos for babies!

On my honor! Especially those with background noise similar to the uterus (with heart beat and white noise and such).

Look for them on Youtube (baby sensory) and give me your feedback.

You can put the baby in daddy's lap and melt with tenderness before heading to go clean the kitchen, folding sheets, vacuum the room (right, right!) – please read, SLEEP!

Ao pai | To daddy

Thank you for always making me feel sexy and beautiful during pregnancy.

Even when I had dark circles to the ground (do you really think I'm beautiful with dark circles, or do you just deceive me well?).

Even when I had elephant legs (I even insisted to put them under your nose, "look at my feet! Just look at my feet!!").

Even when I made more noise than a 1880’s locomotive to get up from the couch.

Thank you for putting up with my temper during pregnancy. And the hurricane that passed through this house so I could make the nest. And the 2 am clean ups.

I know I’m not easy, sometimes. And I think I'm always right. But you have to agree, I made an effort. And your ideas were very good, I'm glad I’ve listen to you. And thanks for all the trips to Leroy Merlin (I believe the record was 4 times in one day).

Thank you for spoiling me (you already did it before, I know, I'm a lucky girl!)

I also tried to improve and just enjoy it, without asking how much money you spent ... (ouch, I’m terrible!). It is not easy and I couldn’t always do it, but thank you for keep trying. And it shows that you know me so well that in addition to discovering those little things that you know I’ll love, you're also able to take my first reaction so well until I reflect and can be really grateful.

Thank you for having stayed with me during labor.

I knew you wouldn’t pass out! Your pampering helped a lot. The love I saw in your eyes, helped even more.

(I would only have go without the report of what was happening in the other delivery rooms and how mine was going much easier. Thanks a lot, dear sir, the next is yours!)

Thank you for the first look that you threw our son and then me when our eyes met again.

How lame! But it's true. I've never seen a look like that. I never thought I could fit so much a look. Such passion, love, dedication.

Thank you for the times that you got "angry" with me.

To rest... to straighten my back... Even if sometimes I gave a bad response, I know it's because you care and I'm grateful (even if it doesn’t look like it).

Thank you for the times you get up that night to rock our Afonso, clean his nose, cover him...

Even when you have to get up at 7 am to go to work. You are my hero.

Thank you for loving us.

And showing it every day!

Receita: Iogurte caseiro / Recipe: homemade yogurt

Basta:
- Ferver um litro de leite e transferi-lo para um recipiente de vidro ou cerâmica;
- Deixar arrefecer ligeiramente (até suportarmos bem espetar lá um dedo);
- Juntar duas colheres de chá de iogurte e mexer;
- Tapar com um prato e envolver numa manta polar;

I don’t bring you an original recipe, but I just want to share what I consider to be the best homemade yogurt recipe. And also the easiest and most inexpensive!

You can find it here, in Luarte’s blog.

It’s extremely simple, and since I started making them, I haven’t eaten another yogurt!

Simply:
- Boil a litre of milk and transfer it to a glass or ceramic container;
- Leave to slightly cool (until you can endure sticking a finger there);
- Add two teaspoons of yogurt and stir;
- Cover with a plate and involve in a fleece blanket;
- Leave it to ferment for about 10-12 hours inside the oven.

Simple, isn´t it? Luarte explains how to go from this greek yogurt, but for now the plain yogurt has sufficed for me.

In the old days, I didn’t like natural yogurt and ate flavoured yoghurt, or added sugar to the natural ones. Obviously, with gestational diabetes, I ceased to be able to eat these kind of yogurts.

It was the right incentive to start making yogurts at home.

And the taste is really something that is educated. Now, I love natural yogurt and the others ones seem overly sweet. The man of the house has yet to surrender to the natural flavor. I could make him sweetened yogurt or with some flavor, but what we choose to do is adding a teaspoon or two of homemade jam, which I always have. He can then eat yogurt flavoured with peach, pear, pumpkin, strawberries, etc...

All right, so regarding taste, trust me, this are great yogurts. Now at the economic level they’re also great! :)

For the first portion of yogurt, it is necessary to use a store bought yogurt. But it stops there! After that, whenever you make yogurt, you just have to add two tablespoons of the previous yogurt, or even just the serum that breaks free of it. Thus to make one serving of yogurt, you only spend the value of a whole milk package. And I've used several brands and all work well.

Now about values, so you can realize the true savings!

With a litre of whole milk I make 935 grams of yogurt (you lose a bit cream and so...).

Now, store yogurts have 125 grams. 935 divided by 125 gives 7.48, or slightly more than 7 yogurts. Again, from one litre of milk.

The cheapest natural yogurts are around 15/20 cents per yogurt. Using one litre of whole milk for approximately € 0.7, we get yogurts at 10 cents each! And without the waste of packaging!

It is true that I’m not counting the gas spent to boil the milk, but the amount should be negligible. Now with the oven, I don’t spend anything, because it doesn’t need to be on to ferment the yogurt. Just leave it well covered with the blanket.

Enjoy and good savings!

Sou parecido com quem? | Who do I resemble the most?

- E o dedo mindinho do pé do pai!

That’s the question!

I think Alfonso looks more like me. Daddy thinks he resembles him more, of course!

So far, we are sure of two things:

- He has his maternal grandma’s chin...
- And his father's little toe!

Now, what I did not expect is that he would have similarities to a certain historical leader...

There’s a moment, right there before he starts yelling...

That Afonso is the spitting image of Winston Churchill!

I’ve got to investigate the family lineage...
